BEYOND BORDERS

A selection of photos from humanitarian crises that have impacted me most as a photographer. Captured in affected regions and bordering countries, these images document displacement and resilience.

Rzeszow

Main train station

The overwhelming majority of Ukrainian refugees are women and children.

The arriving refugees require specific healthcare, such as treatment for chronic conditions, psychological support and maternal and child health.

The Rzeszow main train station has been converted into a reception centre for refugees, with entire families including elderly women, new mothers and their babies availing of crucial health services, including psychosocial health support.

Moldova

Moldova and many other countries neighbouring Ukraine are giving a warm welcome to refugees from Ukraine. Amid the exodus, government and civil society entities in Moldova and elsewhere have swiftly established reception points where the new arrivals can avail of essential services including medical and psychosocial support.

From Kyiv to Germany

A MEDEVAC story: Kyiv-Lviv-Rzeszów-Nuremberg

WHO health partners have evacuated eight children from Ukraine to Germany where they can now continue their life-saving treatment outside Ukraine. WHO/Europe has been working with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the European Commission and other key health actors on a long-running Medevac programme. So far, over 4000 patients have been evacuated for specialised support, including trauma response, oncological treatment and prosthetic care. WHO/Europe and WHO Ukraine stand in solidarity with the health workers, patients and civilians impacted by over 2 years of full-scale war.

FROM Gaza to SPAIN

Iman Almajayda and her 6-year-old twin daughters, Samar and Eleen, navigate a new life in Spain after being evacuated from Gaza. Eleen, diagnosed with leukemia, is receiving life-saving medical treatment thanks to international support from WHO and partners. Despite the challenges of being far from home, the family is focused on recovery and adapting to their new surroundings, while finding hope and safety after the trauma of war.
